Science and Engineering Research Board

The Science and Engineering Research Board or SERB was set up in 2009 following the enactment of the SERB Act, 2008. This statutory body comes under the aegis of the Central Government’s Department of Science and Technology. It was established to promote fundamental research in the field of science and engineering through financial aids to scientists, academic institutes, R&D labs, industrial entities etc.

The Fund for Industrial Research Engagement (FIRE) was brought forth by this board recently to promote research in the nascent fields like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things etc.
