Article 311

Article 311 of the Indian Constitution provides civil servants the chance to respond to the charges in an inquiry so as to limit the possibility of arbitrary dismissal from service. Article 311 (2)(a) allows the dismissal of a government employee convicted in a criminal case without a departmental enquiry. Also, Article 311(2)(c) allows dismissal if the President or the Governor is satisfied that in the interest of state security, it is not practical to hold an inquiry.
