China Launched World’s First 6G Experimental Satellite – IASPOINT

China Launched World’s First 6G Experimental Satellite

China has launched the world’s first 6G experimental satellite on November 6, 2020. This satellite will test the Tetrahertz waves technology in space.

Highlights

China launched world’s first experimental satellite into orbit along with 12 other satellites. This satellite weighs around 70 kgs. The satellite is carrying the technologies used for forest fire prevention and crop disaster monitoring.

6G Band

The 6G band lies between the 5G band and the terahertz frequency. The 6G technology is more advantageous than the 5G in terms of speed and lossless transmission. This is advantageous in the especially in the context of space. The research for 6G was recently launched by the International Telecommunication Union ( ITU) on 6G in March 2020. It was launched during its 34thITU Working Group meet. The research works on the 6G technology would begin by 2021. the 6G technology could be used both by machines and humans. The technology would be more related to Artificial Intelligence communication.

China’s 14th FYP

The 14thfive year plan (FYP) of China for the year 2021 to 2025 has been dedicated to become a technologically self-reliant country in the context of artificial intelligence, semiconductor chips, fifth generation wireless technologies and the autonomous vehicles.

About 5G band

5G technology is currently in its initial stage. Presently, there are presently 82 commercial networks in the world that are using 5G. These networks are mainly located in US, UK and Australia. In India, the Government will carry out the 5G spectrum auction in the first quarter of 2021. The Department of Telecommunications highlighted that the sale will include almost 8,300 megahertz of airwaves.
