Coviran
Coviran is the COVID-19 vaccine that became the first in Iran to reach human trials. It was produced by Shifa Pharmed, part of a state-owned pharmaceutical conglomerate known as Barekat. It is an inactivated vaccine made of SARS-CoV-2 that is either weakened or killed using chemicals. This is similar to polio immunisation. Leading western vaccines like Pfizer and BionNTech use newer and less-proven technology to target the virus’ spike protein using RNA.
