National Company Law Tribunal

The National Company Law Tribunal was set up in 2016 under Section 408 of the Companies Act, 2013. It is quasi-judicial body responsible for the adjudication of issues pertaining to Indian companies. It was set up as per the recommendation of the V.Balakrishna Eradi committee on law relating to the insolvency and closure of companies.
The NCLT is in charge of disposing of all proceedings under the Companies Act, including those relating to the arbitration, compromise, arrangements, reconstructions and winding up of companies. The Central Government had recently appointed 18 members to this tribunal.
