Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services

The Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS)came into being following the recommendations of the Armed Forces Medical Services and Research Integration Committee, which was set up in March 1947. The DGAFMS is directly responsible to the Union Defence Ministry for the overall medical needs of the armed forces. This position is held by an officer in the rank of Lieutenant General or equivalent.
