Dongria Kondh

Dongria Kondh is a particularly vulnerable tribal group living in the Niyamgiri hills in the northwest of Odisha. Their name is derived from “dongar”, which means “agricultural land on hill slopes”. Their sustenance is dependent on Niyamgiri forest resources, horticultural practices and shifting cultivation. The COVID-19 pandemic has hit this community recently in Odisha’s Rayagada district, with at least four individuals being tested positive.
