The Hazaras are an ethnic and religious minority group mainly living in the central Afghan region of Hazarajat. Their lineage may possibly trace back to the founder of the Mongol Empire, Genghis Khan and his army that invaded the entire region in the 13th century.
This minority community is one of the main targets of the Taliban because they are primarily Shia Muslims. Their uniqueness comes from the fact that they have distinct Asiatic features and use Persian dialect called Hazaragi. They account for around 10-12 per cent of AfghanistanÂ’s entire population.
