Highlights of the Operation Meri Saheli.

Indian Railways has launched an initiative called “Meri Saheli” on October 29, 2020. The initiative focuses on action of the security of women across all zones. The primary objective of the initiative is to provide safety and security to lady passengers travelling by trains for their entire journey from source station to destination station.

Highlights

  • This is an initiative of RPF.
  • Under the initiative, strategy is to interact with lady passengers especially those travelling alone.
  • A team of young lady RPF personnel would be interacting with the lady passenger at the source station.
  • The lady passengers would be briefed about all precautions to be taken during the journey and they would be suggested to dial 182 in case they face or see any problem in the coach.
  • The RPF team will collect only the seat numbers of the ladies and would convey them to stoppages en-route.
  • The platform duty RPF personnel at the stopping stations en-route will keep unobtrusive watch over the concerned coaches and berths. They would also interact with the lady passenger if need arises.
  • RPF/RPSF escort onboard will also covers all the coaches and identified berths during its duty period.
  • Lastly, the RPF teams at the destination would collect the feedback from the identified lady passengers. Feedback will then be analysed and corrective action would be taken if needed.
  • If any distress call comes from a train covered under “Meri Saheli” initiative, it would be monitored at the level of senior officers.

Background

“Meri Saheli” initiative was started in September 2020 as a pilot project in South Eastern Railway. After it was encouraged with the response from lady passengers, it was extended to all zones and KRCL on October 17, 2020.
