India’s First Display Fabrication Unit: Highlights

The country’s first display fabrication unit is set to be established by Elest. Elest is a subsidiary of Rajesh Exports, a gold exporter. The facility will be opened in Telangana and will cost Rs 24,000 crore. The announcement regarding this was done by K T Rama Rao, the IT Minister of Telangana and Rajesh Mehta, the Chairman of Rajesh Exports.

What will be manufactured in this fabrication unit?

The government of Telangana signed an MoU with Elest, based in Karnataka to set up the fabrication unit. This unit will be used to produce next-generation displays for tablet computers, smartphones, and laptops. The Display FAB is being set up in technological collaboration with some of the most cutting-edge research centres from around the planet.

What is the aim of setting up this display fabrication unit?

The setting up of this display unit will boost India to the global map and will be elevating the country to be on the same pedestal as that of the USA, China, and Japan. This display unit will also help in boosting the IT and electronics environment of the state and its auxiliaries. This unit will be attracting talents from across the globe in the fields of next-generation technologies. It would also be providing job opportunities to around 3,000 people.

Under which mission, is this fabrication unit being set up?

This fabrication unit will be established under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s India Semiconductor Mission programme. A research and development centre will also be established by Elest to support research in display technologies.
