Industrial Decarbonization Summit 2022: Highlights

The “Industrial Decarbonization Summit 2022’ (IDS-2022) – Road Map for Carbon Neutrality by 2070” was launched by Nitin Gadkari, India’s Road Transport and Highways Minister on 16th June 2022.

Why was this summit launched?

The summit has been launched with the aim of underlining the importance of maintaining the balance between development, environment, and ecology. The summit will also focus on ways via which power shortages can be overcome as it is crucial for the development of various kinds of alternative fuels. The country must find ways to strengthen the economy as well as make ways to sustain the environment. This summit was launched at the Le Meridien Hotel, New Delhi.

What are the focus points of this summit?

The summit focused on:

  • decarbonization-related research topics
  • sustainability
  • Policy issues
  • Climate change and its mitigation

In this summit, participants took part from various fields such as researchers, academia, business, policymakers, industry, etc. This summit also focuses on discussing ways of utilizing innovative technologies for the purpose of decarbonization.

What is the priority of the government?

The government is focusing on green hydrogen. By using biotechnological methods, the government is looking to boost the Biomass productivity. Biomass can be used to produce:

  • Bio-LNG
  • Bio-ethanol
  • Bio-CNG.

If ethanol and methanol are used, then the pollution levels will come down. Also, a road map has to be developed and implement research so that the country can reduce its energy imports.
