IPPB Launched Doorstep Service to Submit Digital Life Certificate

India Post Payments Bank ( IPPB ) have successfully launched the initiative of doorstep service for the submission of Digital Life Certificate through Postman.

Background

The facility to submit life certificate online through ‘Jeevan Pramaan Portal’ was launched in November 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The primary objective of the launch of the portal was to provide a convenient and transparent facility to pensioners for submission of Life Certificate.

Highlights

The department of Pension and Pensioners’ welfare came up with the idea of Integrating the India Post Payment Bank so as to make this facility available across the country. This was done to utilise the huge network of Postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks to provide doorstep facility to the pensioners in order to submit their life certificate digitally.

Significance of India Post Payments Bank ( IPPB )

The IPPB is currently utilising its national network of more than one lakh 36 thousand access points in Post Offices and more than one lakh 89 thousand Postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks. The postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks help with smart phones and biometric devices in order to provide Doorstep Banking Services. Because of this facility, a huge number of pensioners across the country are able to avail doorstep service through Postmen and Gramin Dak Sevak. They need not visit to the bank branch or standing in a queue outside the bank branches.

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB)

IPPB is a public sector payments bank. The bank is operated by the India Post. It was opened in 2018. By September 2020, the bank has acquired about 3.5 crore customers. The India Post received the licence to run the bank from reserve bank of India on 19 August 2015. In August 2016, the bank was registered as a public limited government company to set up a payments bank. The bank operates under the Department of Posts of the Ministry of Communications.
