About the Smart Clothes
- Researchers working in MIT have also showed that their clothes will also determine specific things such as if a person is walking, sitting, or doing any distinct pose.
- A group from the MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) highlighted that the clothes developed by them can be used for various kinds athletic rehabilitations and training.
- These smart clothes with the permission of patients, can even help to monitor the health of the residents in assisted-care facilities and can determine things such as if the person is unconscious or has fallen to the ground.
- The researchers have developed various prototypes ranging from gloves to socks to a full vest.
- The researchers have used a small amount of functional fibre that is custom-made to sense pressure through pressure points received from the person wearing the cloth and along with the functional fibre they have also used normal textile fibres in the mix.
- Socks can predict the motion by scrutinizing different tactile footprint sequences that are related to different poses even when the user transitions from one pose to another.
- The full sized vest can also determine the pose of the person wearing it along with the texture and activity of the surfaces coming in contact.
Smart clothing can be incorporated into any traditional clothing style and can be mass produced. They are machine knitted and are extremely soft, stretchable, and breathable and can be made into different forms.
