Mount Semeru

Mount Semeru is an active volcano on the Java Island of Indonesia. It is also called Mahameru (the Great Mountain) and is the highest on the island. Its location corresponds with the subduction zone- where the Eurasian Plate meets the Indo-Australian Plate. Indonesia lies in the Pacific Ring of Fire- a region with high concentration of volcanoes. It belongs to a category of volcanoes called stratovolcano (a conical volcano).
