Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Operational in 272 Districts

The minister of state for Social justice and Empowerment Shri Ratan Lal Kataria said In Lok Sabha on September 20, 2020 that the Ministry has launched Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in more than 272 districts so far. He also said that the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction has been formulated and is being implemented by the Ministry Of Social justice and empowerment.  The scheme was launched in 2018 and would sunset in 2025.

  • The National Plan for Drug Demand Reduction is aimed at reducing the consequences of drug abuse.
  • The plan also include awareness generation programs for schools and colleges, capacity building of service providers and facilities for treatment.
  • This plan is being implemented in 272 districts that were identified by the narcotics control bureau.
  • These districts have been selected mostly from  Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and North Eastern States. These districts are highly affected by drug abuse.

Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan annual Action Plan 2020-21

The action plan was launched on  international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking which is celebrated on 26 June every year. The plan includes following objectives:

  1. To strengthen and capacity building programs that are already being implemented by the service providers.
  2. To create awareness generation programs
  3. To promote peer led community-based outreach programs focusing on highest population. This predominantly targets the youth of the country.
  4. To focus on University campuses, higher educational institutions and schools.
  5. To focus on treatment facilities and infrastructure in hospitals
  6. To reach communities and identify dependent population.
  7. To setup de addiction facilities
  8. To establish integrated rehabilitation Centre for addicts.

Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was launched by the Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab in 2015.  The National list of districts affected by substance abuse says that 18 of 22 districts of Punjab are affected with the drug abuses. So the programme was launched to tackle this problem.
