National Rail Plan

National Rail Plan (NRP) for India – 2030 of the Indian Railways aims to create a future-ready railway system by the end of the current decade. It seeks to increase railways’ role in logistics sector and support demand growth up to 2050. It plans to create around 8,000 km of high-speed corridors and another 8,000 km of dedicated freight corridors, which will be worth Rs.40 lakh crore.
The World Bank recently outlined its role in the ambitious NRP over the next thirty years. It offered its expertise, including the support for the execution of private partnership models, development of intermodal stations and upgrading of existing lines.
