PM Modi addresses Virtual Vesak Global Celebrations

On Wednesday Prime Minister Narendra Modi has virtually addressed Virtual Vesak Global Celebrations celebrated on Buddha Purnima. The Prime Minister once more saluted the healthcare workers working in the frontline, the doctors and the nurses who are selflessly risking their lives daily to serve the people in need. He also extended his condolences to those who lost their near and dear ones. The congregation has also been addressed by over 50 prominent Buddhist religious leaders from across the world.

The event has been organised by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India in association with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC). This event will also witness the participation of all the leaders of the Buddhist Sanghas from across the world. The event has also been addressed by the Union Minister of Culture Prahlad Singh Patel and Minister of State for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju.

About Vesak

Vesak is also known as Buddha Jayanti and it is a holiday observed by Buddhists and Hindus South and Southeast Asia. This festival is celebrated to commemorate the birth, enlightenment and death of Gautama Buddha.

About Gautama Buddha

Gautama Buddha who lived in ancient India is regarded to be the founder of Buddhism. He was born in Lumbini which is now located in present day Nepal and Died in Kushinagar.
