Shrisant Tukaram Maharaj Temple: Highlights

On 14th June 2022, a temple was inaugurated in Dehu, Pune by PM Modi. This newly inaugurated temple has been dedicated to the 17th-century Saint Tukaram Maharaj. During the temple’s inauguration, the Prime Minister received a special Tukaram Pagdi. This pagdi has been created by Murudkar Zendewale, a Pune-based firm that makes turbans. What makes the turban special is that there are ‘Abhang’ (verses) written on it.

When was a Shila Mandir constructed for Tukaram Maharaj?

After Tukaram Maharaj passed away, a Shila Mandir was built in his memory. However, the mandir wasn’t officially recognized as a temple. Later, it was rebuilt by using stones and having 36 peaks. This temple houses an idol of Saint Tukaram Maharaj.
