Subsidy on the transportation of fruits and vegetables through Kisan Rail Trains Extended by 50%

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries have decided to extend the subsidy by 50% on the transportation of fruits and vegetables by the Kisan Rail Trains.

Highlights

  • The Ministry will provide Rs 10 crores in the beginning in order to operate the scheme.
  • The money would be deposited with the Southern Central Railway.
  • Railways would also be providing a utilization Certificate to the Ministry of Food Processing Industries after the allocated funds has been utilized.
  • The ministry would be providing additional funds to the Railways, in return.
  • The subsidy would be extended with an immediate effect.

Kisan Rail Scheme

The announcement for the launch of Kisan Rail Train was first presented by the Union Budget of 2020. The first Kisan Rail Train was flagged on August 8, 2020 by the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar. It was launched from Deolali, Nashik to Danapur, Bihar. This train service between Maharashtra and Bihar seeks to procure fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers other perishable products from the adjoining regions.
