Swaraj Island is one of the largest islands in Ritchie’s Archipelago in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It received this new name in 2018 in honour of Subhas Chandra Bose. Its former name was Havelock Island. It is located 41 km northeast of Port Blair. The Union Environment Ministry’s expert appraisal committee had recently flagged concerns regarding the environmental implications of aerodrome project in this island.
