UP CM launches ‘hath dhona, roke corona’ on Global Handwashing Day.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the “hath dhona, roke corona” campaign on October 15, 2020. This campaign was launched while emphasising upon the sanitation practices on the occasion of Global Handwashing Day.

  • The Chief Minister stressed that common habits of personal hygiene including washing hands can protect from coronavirus infection.
  • Personal hygiene also help people to lead a healthy and disease-free life.
  • Through this programme, all people can connect and can make personal hygiene a part of their daily routine.
  • It would also help to break the chain of corona infection.

About the event

To mark the day special handwashing programs were organised in all the districts of Uttar Pradesh. Girl students of Delhi University also showcased  various kinds of handwashing demonstrations at Taj Mahal in Agra. The students are part of hygiene pioneer Sulabh International’s sanitation club.

Sulabh sanitation movement

It was founded by Bindeshwar Pathak during 1970s. Since then, the movement has spread the awareness regarding the importance of handwashing with soap as the best way to reduce disease transmission.

Global Handwashing Day

The day is observed on October 15 every year. The day is observed with an objective to raise awareness and highlight the importance of handwashing. The day emphasise that handwashing is as an effective means of disease prevention. The theme of the Global Handwashing Day 2020 is ‘Hand Hygiene for All’. This theme primarily urging people to achieve universal hand hygiene.
