Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar

Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was born on September 26, 1820 in a village in Bengal. This year marks the 201st birth anniversary of Vidyasagar. He is a social reformer, philosopher, philanthropist and educationist who advocated for social justice, women empowerment and widow remarriage. He fought against child marriage and polygamy.
Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar brought in socio-religious reforms in India by bringing various changes in education sector, like introducing monthly exams instead of annual ones, change syllabuses to include English, Western Science and Mathematics and making Sunday a weekly holiday.
