World Students Day being observed on October 15.

The World Students Day is observed every year on the occasion of  birth anniversary of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on October 15. The 2020 version of the day is being celebrated under the Theme: Learning for people, prosperity and peace. The United Nations had declared his birth anniversary to be celebrated as World Students Day in 2010.

About Dr APJ Abdul Kalam

Dr Kalam had served as the 11th President of India. He was affectionately called as the “People’s President”. He is also called as the “Missile Man of India”. He was an aerospace scientist and also a teacher.

His Contributions to Space Programmes

Dr Kalam was a part of the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) Committee under Vikram Sarabhai. This committee has decided to set up Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station. He visited NASA’s space research centre between 1963-1964. His efforts made India to develope its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle. He also directed Project Valiant and Project Devil. His role can not be neglected in developing Prithvi and Agni missiles. The Pokhran II nuclear tests were conducted during 1992-1993 when he was the Secretary of Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).Mr.  Kalam along with Dr Soma Raju had developed a low-cost stent called the “Kalam Raju Stent” in 1998 while in 2012, both had designed a tablet called the “Kalam Raju Tablet”.
