World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is observed each year on September 10 to spread awareness about ways to prevent suicides. It creates public awareness about early signs that may lead to victims committing suicides.
The WSPD was observed for the first time in 2003. It was an initiative of the International Association for Suicide Prevention in collaboration with the World Health Organisation. After its success during the first year, the WHO formally agreed to co-sponsor the event in 2004, making it an annually recognized day. The theme for this year is “Creating Hope Through Action”.
