Loujain al-Hathloul

Loujain al-Hathloul is a prominent women’s rights activist from Saudi Arabia. She is known for her efforts to get the conservative Middle East country to lift the ban on women driving. She is also known for her role in the movement to remove the ‘Wilayah’ system i.e. male guardianship system for women. She has been imprisoned under the country’s counter-terrorism laws for ‘undermining national security’. Her arrest and conviction is being criticised by human rights activists around the world.
