What is National Medicinal Plant Board?

The National Medicinal Plant Board (NMPB) was established by the Indian Government on 24th November 2000 to promote the medicinal plant sector. It currently comes under the aegis of the Ministry of AYUSH. It is responsible for taking necessary steps to coordinate and promote all activities related to the overall conservation, cultivation, trade and export of medicinal plants. It is also mandated to promote research and development, capacity building and raising awareness about the medicinal plants.

The NMPB had recently inked a MoU with the National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI) to boost cultivation and production of medical plants and herbs in India.
