Greece is often called the cradle of Western civilization. It introduced democracy and philosophy. The ancient city of Athens was a cultural hub. Greece has over 6,000 islands, but only about 227 are inhabited. The country is known for its unique architectural styles, like the Doric and Ionic columns. Greek cuisine heavily features olive oil and feta cheese. The Olympic Games originated here in 776 BC.
