Immunisation

Immunisation in India began in the early 20th century with smallpox vaccination. The National Immunisation Programme was launched in 1978. India eliminated polio in 2014. The country uses the Universal Immunisation Programme to vaccinate children against preventable diseases. Vaccines are provided free of cost at government health centres. India is also a major global vaccine manufacturer, contributing to worldwide immunisation efforts.
