11th A-WEB Executive Board Meeting

The 11th meeting of the Executive Board of the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) recently took place in Cartagena, Colombia. Alongside this important gathering, an International Conference on the challenges of regional elections in 2023 was organized by the National Civil Registry of Colombia.

A-WEB: A Catalyst for Electoral Democracy

The Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) was established in 2013 and has emerged as the largest global association of election management bodies. With 120 Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) from 111 countries and 21 international organizations as members, A-WEB plays a pivotal role in promoting electoral democracy worldwide. Its core objective is to facilitate the sharing of innovations, experiences, and skills among its members to strengthen electoral processes.

Deliberations at the Executive Board Meeting

The Executive Board meeting witnessed discussions on various critical issues pertaining to A-WEB’s programs and activities. The participants focused on outlining the activities to be undertaken during the upcoming year, the Annual Progress Report of A-WEB and its regional offices, including the A-WEB India Centre. Budgetary considerations and membership-related matters were also deliberated upon, aiming to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of A-WEB’s initiatives.

India’s Leadership and Engagement

The 11th A-WEB Executive Board meeting saw the active participation of a 3-member delegation from the Election Commission of India (ECI), led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar. India’s involvement in A-WEB reflects its commitment to promoting democratic values and sharing its vast electoral management experience with the global community. India’s leadership role in the association is instrumental in driving positive change and fostering best practices in election management worldwide.

Bilateral Meeting on ECI’s Electronic Postal Ballot System

During the sidelines of the Executive Board meeting, a bilateral meeting between the Election Commission of India and the National Election Commission of the Republic of Korea took place. The focus of this meeting was the ECI’s Electronic Postal Ballot System, highlighting India’s innovative approach to facilitating secure and accessible voting for its citizens. Such bilateral engagements contribute to the exchange of knowledge and advancements in election technology, strengthening electoral systems globally.
