Event Overview & History

Incepted as a biennial event, the IISS is celebrated every two years and takes pride in being one of the oldest and largest seafood events worldwide. The previous, that is, the 21st edition of IISS was held in Goa back in January 2018.

Purpose of the Event

The IISS acts as a unified platform for various stakeholders within the sector such as producers, processing machinery manufacturers, linkage sectors, technical experts, etc. The ultimate goal is to facilitate interaction, build trade relations and eventually bolster seafood exports from India.

The Significance of IISS

Apart from showcasing the rich diversity of Indian seafood, the IISS also opens up new avenues. It introduces various technologies and products to the global market, thereby enhancing Foreign Direct Investment in India and strengthening the ‘Make in India’ program.

During the fiscal year 2018-19, India exported marine products worth $6.70 billion. With sustainable fishing methods, value addition, and increased aquaculture production through diversification, the country aims to achieve an export turnover of $15 billion in the next five years.
