CSIR-CRRI Develops Kisan Sabha App for Farmer Support

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, a unique solution has been launched by the CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI), New Delhi. Named the Kisan Sabha App, it aims to provide a strong link between farmers and the supply chain and freight transportation management system. The app presents a potent tool in ensuring that products are delivered timely, and at the best possible prices.

Objectives of Kisan Sabha

Kisan Sabha has clear objectives that revolve around providing logistical support to farmers. The app seeks to offer the most economical and timely logistics, with a core focus on boosting profit margins for farmers. One of the ways it achieves this is by reducing the role of middlemen, thus connecting farmers directly with institutional buyers.

Beyond that, the app also aids in providing the best market prices for crops by comparing rates at the nearest mandis. This comparison enables farmers to book freight vehicles at the cheapest cost, thereby ensuring maximum benefit to the farmers.

Stakeholders Involved

A range of stakeholders find utility in Kisan Sabha. Among them are farmers, transporters, service providers (like pesticides/fertilizer dealers, cold store and warehouse owners), mandi dealers, customers like big retail outlets, online stores, and institutional buyers, among others.

The app serves as a single stop for all entities related to agriculture. Whether it’s a farmer seeking a better price for crops, a mandi dealer wanting to connect to more farmers, or truckers who invariably return empty from the mandis, Kisan Sabha caters to all. It also extends a platform for those wishing to buy directly from the farmers.

The CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI)

CSIR-CRRI is synonymous with quality research and innovation. Established in 1952, it is a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and is based in Delhi. The institute stands as the premier national research organization for highways traffic, transport planning and all other allied aspects.

The institute carries out R&D in the areas of road and road transportation, and offers the highest level of professional consultancy. The development of Kisan Sabha app is another step in this consistent effort towards contributing constructively to different sectors.

Conclusion

The Kisan Sabha app is a revolutionary step in connecting farmers directly with institutional buyers and providing them with better market rates for their crops. This tool, created by CSIR-CRRI, aims to ensure the smooth and economical transportation of crops, minimize interference of middlemen, and ultimately increase profit margins for farmers. With its wide range of stakeholders and features, the app has the potential to drastically change the agricultural landscape and improve the lives of farmers across the country.
