Single Male Government Employees Now Eligible for Child Care Leave

In terms of the specifics of the leave policy, child care leave can be granted at 100% of leave salary for the first 365 days and at 80% of leave salary for the subsequent 365 days. This ensures that the individual taking leave continues to receive income, making it possible to focus on child-rearing without financial stress.

Furthermore, the policy offers additional benefits in case of a disabled child. Previously, child care leave could only be availed up to the age of 22 years for a disabled child. However, the updated regulation removes this condition, allowing a government servant to avail child care leave for a disabled child of any age.

Child Care Leave: A Closer Look

Child care leave is treated as earned leave and is traditionally granted to women employees. It is meant to facilitate women employees who have minor children – up to 18 years of age – allowing them to take leave for a maximum period of two years (730 days) during their entire service. This leave can be used to look after the needs of children, such as during examinations or sickness, or simply for child-rearing.

With the new policy update, the provision of child care leave has been extended to single male government employees, reflecting a significant step towards acknowledging and supporting diverse family structures.
