In a major announcement on India’s 75th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled several new initiatives that will help shape the future of the nation. The initiatives are aimed at transforming various sectors including infrastructure, energy, food security, transportation, education, and digital commerce. This series of measures, which also includes the observance of the “Partition Horrors Remembrance Day”, underlines the government’s commitment to drive growth, development and unity in the country.
Gati Shakti Master Plan: A Boost for Holistic Infrastructure Development
The Gati Shakti Master Plan is an ambitious Rs. 100 lakh-crore project that aims to revolutionize India’s infrastructure. By focusing on a holistic approach, this initiative will not only raise the global profile of local manufacturers but also help them compete worldwide. The project also opens up prospects for future economic zones, thereby strengthening the foundation for job creation for India’s burgeoning youth.
National Hydrogen Mission: Towards Climate Responsibility and Energy Independence
The National Hydrogen Mission is another significant stride towards achieving climate targets and energy independence. This initiative focuses on green hydrogen, produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using an electrolyzer powered by renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. This eco-friendly shift will significantly reduce India’s reliance on energy imports, which currently cost the nation over Rs 12 lakh crore.
Rice Fortification Plan: A Step towards eradicating Malnutrition
Aiming at addressing the rampant malnutrition among women and children, the Rice Fortification Plan will ensure that rice distributed under various government schemes is fortified by 2024. These include the Public Distribution System (PDS), Mid-Day Meals in schools, and Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS). Considering that every second woman in India is anaemic and every third child is stunted, this initiative is a strategic move towards combating the serious hunger crisis that India faces.
Vande Bharat Trains: Seamless Connectivity across the Nation
The ‘Vande Bharat’ project will see 75 indigenous semi-high speed trains connecting different parts of the country in 75 weeks. This move is a part of the ongoing ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration. By August 2022, the Railways aim to roll out at least 10 Vande Bharat trains, linking around 40 cities, thereby fortifying the nation’s transportation infrastructure.
Sainik Schools for Girls: Empowering Girls through Quality Education
In a powerful move towards ensuring gender equality in education, all Sainik Schools across the country will now admit girls as well. Currently, there are 33 such schools operating under the Sainik Schools Society, which is administratively controlled by the Ministry of Defence. These schools have traditionally been established to mould students from an early age for entry into the Indian armed forces.
E-commerce platform for Self-Help Groups: Amplifying Women-led Microenterprises
The government will create an e-commerce platform to connect products of women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with customers both within and beyond the country. This digital initiative aims to widen the market reach for these products, empowering more than eight crore rural women associated with SHGs.
Partition Horrors Remembrance Day: Remembering to Foster Unity and Harmony
14th August will now be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, aimed at fostering unity, social harmony and human empowerment. The observance of this day serves as a reminder of the need to eliminate social divisions and disharmony, while focusing on the spirit of oneness.
