This has led to the name ‘Kali Bein’, literally translating as ‘black rivulet’. Further, the stagnated pollution has resulted in the growth of dense grass and weeds on the water body until an official cleaning project took off.

The Kali Bein isn’t just a river, it holds immense significance in the Sikh religion and historical narratives. It is believed to be the site where Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh guru, attained enlightenment.
During his stay at Sultanpur Lodhi, Guru Nanak Dev used to bath in the Kali Bein. It is said that one day he mysteriously disappeared into the waters of this rivulet, only to re-emerge on the third day. On his return, he recited the Mool Mantra, thereby laying the foundation stone of the Sikh religion.
