The National Statistics Office has launched the first Annual Survey of Incorporated Services Sector Enterprises (ASISSE) for the reference year 2024-25. The survey will cover incorporated services enterprises across all States and Union Territories from April 2026. It aims to build a comprehensive official database on India’s incorporated services sector, which is a major part of the economy.
Survey Coverage and Scope
ASISSE will cover corporate entities in the services sector, including companies registered under the Companies Act, 1956/2013 and limited liability partnerships under the LLP Act, 2008. The sample size is about 1.21 lakh enterprises. The survey will capture key operational and economic indicators from sectors such as trade, transport, hospitality, information technology, education and health.
Data Framework and Methodology
The survey uses the GSTN database as the sampling frame. Data collection will be carried out through a secure web-based portal. The exercise will be conducted under the Collection of Statistics Act, 2008, as amended in 2017, and the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2023. The design is intended to improve the reliability and comparability of official statistics on services enterprises.
Significance for Economic Statistics
India’s services sector contributes more than half of GDP and generates large-scale employment. ASISSE is expected to provide evidence-based inputs for policy, planning and economic analysis. It also fills a key statistical gap, as comparable official coverage already exists for manufacturing through the Annual Survey of Industries and for unincorporated non-agricultural enterprises through the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises.
Know Your Survey Guide
NSO has also released Know Your Survey – A User Guide to ASISSE. The document explains survey objectives, coverage, concepts, definitions and reporting requirements in simple language. It includes answers to common queries from respondents and is meant to improve awareness, transparency and compliance. The guide reflects global best practices in communicating survey processes and strengthening trust in official statistics.
