Amantya Technologies Secures Funding for India’s 5G Development

Amantya Technologies has recently received funding from the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). This funding is aimed at developing the India 5G Stack featuring a domestically produced 5G Standalone (SA) Core. This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision of self-reliance in technology, particularly under the Atmanirbhar Bharat programme.

Project Overview

The project focuses on creating a carrier-grade 5G SA Core that meets the latest 3GPP Release 16/17 standards. This SA Core is designed for both public and enterprise deployment. The upgraded solution will enhance security and support advanced features such as network slicing, Quality of Service (QoS), Voice over New Radio (VoNR), Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC), and massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC).

Technological Capabilities

The new 5G SA Core will provide geo-redundancy and high availability. It will feature traffic monitoring capabilities through the EFK (Elasticsearch, Fluentd, Kibana) framework. The solution is designed to automatically scale according to demand, ensuring consistent performance. Additionally, it will offer northbound interfaces that facilitate integration with third-party Operations Support Systems (OSS) and Business Support Systems (BSS).

Deployment Flexibility

The technology will be cloud-agnostic, meaning it can be deployed on various platforms, including Kubernetes, OpenStack, and OpenShift. This flexibility allows for deployment on carrier networks, private clouds, or on-premises environments. Such adaptability is crucial for meeting diverse operational requirements across different sectors.

Government Support and Vision

During the contract signing ceremony, key figures from the DoT expressed strong support for this initiative. Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay of C-DOT brought into light the project as milestone for India’s telecom ecosystem. He noted that developing a domestic 5G solution would provide an indigenous alternative for deployment. Dr. Parag Agarwal from TTDF emphasised that this funding reflects India’s growing capabilities in the telecom sector.

Impact on Connectivity

This project aims to bridge the digital divide by extending high-speed connectivity to rural and remote areas. By promoting a Made in India approach, the initiative is expected to reduce costs associated with network deployment. Furthermore, it will encourage the widespread adoption of 5G technology, preparing India for future advancements such as 6G.
