A high security prison cell is known as the Anda Cell. Anda means egg in Hindi. This cell is known as an Anda cell because of its elongated shape. These cells are found only in central prisons in India.

Anda cell is a specially developed cell. They are used to secure high-risk prisoners and also improves visibility during patrol and monitoring. The overseer of each prison has the authority to send prisoners to this cell.
This cell is commonly used to contain terrorists, Naxalite, gangsters as well as members of organized crime syndicates.
Anda Cells Security Barriers
There are two security barriers. They are inside and outside. The inner barrier has restricted access but the outer barrier is a little liberal. All cells in the prison open inward towards the open space. There are certain times when prisoners leave their cells. This varies from person to person. There are more prison officers watching Anda cell than barracks. All employees entering and exiting Anda Cell must sign on the register. The size of the cell depends on the prison.
Solitary Confinements
Anda Cell is not a prison cell for solitary confinements. Physical isolation is a solitary confinement for at least 22.5 hours a day. Anda cell, on the other hand, is the prison?s most isolated cell. These isolation cells have a larger courtyard. It is open from above. This cells has two wings. Prisoners cannot move from wing to wing. They are also covered with iron rods from above as well as from all sides. In Anda cell, prisoners are allowed to roam the small courtyard and talk to fellow prisoners. He can also eat with prisoners.
History of Anda Cell
The Anda cell concept was born after General Vaidya?s assassination. In the year 1986, two radical Sikhs were accused of killing former Army Chief of Staff Vaidya in the city of Pune. The two prisoners were first detained in Anda cell. Later, they were sent to Yerawada Prison and hanged.
