Assam’s Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute Launched

The Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute (AAHII) has been inaugurated as a collaboration between IIT Guwahati and the Assam Government. This initiative aims to enhance healthcare self-reliance in India. The launch event included a symposium that brought together experts in healthcare and technology. The focus is on developing indigenous medical technologies to reduce import dependency and improve healthcare access.

Objectives of AAHII

The primary goal of AAHII is to create a self-sufficient healthcare ecosystem in India. This includes reducing reliance on foreign medical technologies. The initiative aligns with the “Make in India” campaign. It seeks to innovate and manufacture medical solutions locally.

Infrastructure Development

The AAHII will feature a state-of-the-art campus. This will include a 400-bed super-specialty teaching hospital. Advanced research laboratories will also be established. The facility aims to position Assam as a leader in indigenous medical technology.

Collaborative Efforts

The project is a joint effort between academia and government. IIT Guwahati and the Assam Government are working together to tackle healthcare challenges. This partnership is expected to enhance regional development and healthcare resilience.

Research Focus Areas

The AAHII will house six centres of excellence. These centres will focus on stem cell research, digital health, therapeutics, precision medicine, robotics, and affordable diagnostics. Each area aims to address specific healthcare needs in India.

The symposium featured insights from various experts. Prof. Ashok K. Puranik from AIIMS Guwahati emphasised the importance of indigenous innovation. Dr. Naba Goswami brought into light the need for industry-academia partnerships to improve rural healthcare.
