Assam’s Floriculture Mission

Assam’s Floriculture Mission

The state government of Assam has recently decided to launch the Floriculture Mission to boost the northeastern state’s floriculture sector and provide support to farmers in the region. The mission will be launched with an outlay of Rs. 150 crore and is expected to benefit over 20,000 farmers.

Objectives of the Floriculture Mission

The Floriculture Mission has several key objectives, including the expansion of the state’s floriculture sector from 2,200 to 3,288 hectares of land over the next three years. The mission also proposes to provide supportive facilities, such as transport vehicles, pre-cooling facilities, and plastic crates, to farmers in the region.

Value Addition within the Sector

In addition to providing supportive facilities, the Floriculture Mission will also assist with the value addition within the sector. This includes the development of aromatic oil production, agarbatti units, essential oils, and other similar products. The mission will also support the development of wholesale market facilities and floriculture retail outlets, helping to increase the profitability of the sector and improve the quality of life for farmers in the region.

Benefits for Farmers

The Floriculture Mission is expected to provide significant benefits for farmers in Assam. The expansion of the sector will provide new opportunities for farmers to increase their income and improve their standard of living. The supportive facilities and value addition within the sector will also help to reduce the costs associated with farming and increase the profitability of the sector.
