Bio-Trace Minerals Project

Bio-Trace Minerals Project

The Technology Development Board (TDB) and Chemlife Innovations collaborate on the “Commercialization and Manufacturing of Bio-Trace Minerals used in Feed for Animals” project. TDB commits ₹84 lakh to the ₹142.60 lakh project, aligned with India’s National Livestock Mission. The initiative employs innovative ‘Accelerated Natural Bio Transformation’ technology, using pupa proteins to enhance animal nutrition sustainably. Chemlife’s product ‘MinBioZen’ showcases compatibility and results, contributing to circular economy goals by repurposing silk worm pupae meal. The partnership, bolstered by global certifications, advances self-sufficiency, import substitution, and eco-friendly manufacturing in the livestock sector.

Prelims pointer

  • Technology Development Board (TDB): A government body under the Department of Science & Technology (DST) in India that supports technological innovations and advancements by providing funding and assistance.
  • Bio-Trace Minerals: Essential minerals like zinc, copper, manganese, iron, and selenium that are required by animals in trace amounts for optimal health and growth.
  • National Livestock Mission: A strategic framework in India aimed at enhancing livestock productivity, optimizing feed resources, and integrating technology into livestock management to achieve sustainable progress.
  • Accelerated Natural Bio Transformation (ANBioT) Technology: Innovative technology that facilitates chelation reactions under milder conditions, used here to improve the bioavailability of minerals in animal feed.
  • Circular Economy: An economic model focused on minimizing waste and making the most of resources by reusing, recycling, and repurposing materials, as demonstrated in this project through the use of silk worm pupae meal.
