Cabinet Approves India-Japan MoC on Water Resources

Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was apprised of the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed between India and Japan in the field of water resources.

Key Points

  • The MoC was signed between Water and Disaster Management Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan and Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India in the field of Water Resources.
  • This MoC was signed for the development of long-term cooperation in the field of Water and Delta management, and Water technology.
  • The aim of the agreement is to increase the exchange of knowledge, information, technology, and scientific allied experience, as well as the implementation of joint projects between the two countries.
  • This MoC will help in achieving water security, improved irrigation facility, and sustainability in water resources development.

Cooperation in Patent Verification

Recently, India and Japan also agreed to recognize each other’s offices to act mutually as competent International Searching and International Preliminary Examining Authority (ISA/IPEA) for any international patent application filed with them. This agreement was signed during the 4th review meeting between the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the department for the promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT).
