China’s Registered Births Dropped in 2020

Last year, it was seen there is a decline in the number of registered births by around one-third in China last. Even after the relaxations made by the country in the strict family planning policy, there is no rise in the number of births.

  • As per the latest data from the Public Security Ministry, the number of registered births has decreased by 30% from the previous year. The number of births stood at 10.04 million in the year 2020.

  • As per the official data, the gender balance was 47.3 percent girls and 52.7 percent boys.

As per the Demographic experts, it could take 15 years for the two-child policy to have any impact on the increase in the number of births. As per the data, the Chinese retirees are expected to reach 300 million by the year 2025.
