CIPET Renamed to Focus on Petrochemical Sector Growth

The Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET), a highly esteemed national institution in India, has been in the headlines recently due to a significant change. The organization has been officially renamed the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), a change that was officially registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act of 1975.

About the Former CIPET

Originally established in 1968 by the Government of India with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) headquartered at Chennai, the premier institute was initially under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. The primary objective of the CIPET had been to contribute towards the growth of the plastics industry in the country through focused programs of education and research.

CIPET’s New Identity

The name change signifies a shift in the organization’s focus from plastics to the broader spectrum of petrochemicals. In its new avatar as the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology, the institute will expand its scope and fully commit itself to the growth of the entire petrochemical sector.
