Climate Equity Monitor is a global climate policy website. climateequiytmonitor.in is its web address. This website which has been created by India provides information on climate protection measures taken by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) signatories.
Highlights
It provides information on climate change mitigation measures, resource, climate policies and energy consumption by country as well as compares the actions of the Parties on non-Annexes and Annex I lists. There are 43 countries in Annex I, which are developed countries. Countries which are not included in are classified as low-income developing countries. These annexes are categories of COP.
This website was developed by National Institute of Advanced Studies and M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation. The website also contains analysis reports from UNFCCC signatories. The analysis is carried out based on two concepts. One is total emissions and the other is carbon balance. A carbon budget is a country?s carbon dioxide emissions over a period of time. It is the amount that humans can excrete while maintaining the global temperature, which is 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than before industrialization. The site fairly tracks signers. It will evaluate signatories based on their equitable distribution of the global carbon budget.
How is the Climate Equity Monitor different from other climate monitors?
Existing climate monitors assess UNFCCC performance based on north-south climate policies. Such monitors do not deal with the issue of equity. They fill in the most important issues. Climate equity monitors, meanwhile cover all the countries. Global North includes developed countries such as the Russia, United States, Japan, Israel, Singapore, Australia, Israel, South Korea and European countries. On the other hand, Global South consists of developing countries such as Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, India and China. The Global North and Global South gap is based on the socio-economic and political characteristics of the Global North and Global South countries.
