CMERI Develops Efficient Solar DC Cooking Technology

The recent development of solar DC cooking technology by the Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), an institute under the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has garnered attention. The technology’s primary advantage is its contribution to a Clean Cooking Environment. It has the potential to save 1 ton of Carbon Dioxide emissions per year per household, posing a promising solution to environmental concerns.

This cooking system demonstrates 20-25% higher efficiency compared to Conventional Solar based Cooking Systems, which often lose efficiency due to AC-DC conversion. This efficiency increment leads to significant cost savings over time.

Economic Perspective of Solar DC Cooking System

The solar DC cooking system not only promotes efficiency but also costs-effectiveness. The estimated cost of this system ranges from Rs 65,000 to Rs 70,000. This price could be reduced substantially if government subsidies are applied, making it more attainable for average households.
