CSIR-NEERI Launches India’s First Air Quality Repository- IndAIR

The Council of Scientific Industrial Research-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, or CSIR-NEERI, has recently announced the launch of the country’s first-ever interactive online repository, IndAIR (Indian Air quality Studies Interactive Repository).

The Project’s Aim

The goal of the IndAIR project is to democratize access to air quality research by making it freely available to everyone. Whether you’re a journalist, researcher, or academic, the information has been presented in an easy-to-navigate web format that makes accessing the data simple and straightforward.

A Comprehensive Effort

The project represents the first comprehensive effort to catalogue India’s existing research and analysis on air pollution, its causes, and its effects. The repository has archived scanned documents from pre-Internet times (1950-1999), research articles, reports and case studies. In total, it includes historical documentation on over 2,000 statutes concerning air pollution research and legislation within India.

Legislation & Partnerships

IndAIR contains records of all significant environmental legislation in India, dating as far back as 1905. The project has also benefited from the support of various institutions such as the National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCAIR), BARC and the National Archives of India (NAI). Additionally, NEERI partnered with other institutions like TERI, MoEFCC, and CPCB for this project.
