Cyclonic Storm ‘Maha’ Intensifies in Comorin Sea

India, particularly its southern territories, is under threat due to a new cyclonic storm formed in the Comorin Sea, near the southernmost end of the country. This storm, named as ‘Maha’, has been developed from a depression that was initially seen in the same area. The Health Ministry of Oman has assigned this name to the cyclonic storm. At present, the storm is situated over Lakshadweep, the southeast Arabian Sea, and the Maldives region. It should be noted that Maha is the second cyclone storm of the 2019 northeast monsoon season. It follows closely behind Super Cyclone Kyarr that headed towards the Arabian peninsula. All the information is obtained from the Press Information Bureau (PIB).

A Detailed Look at Cyclone Maha

Enlarging from a depression created in the Comorin Sea, the storm has now enhanced into a formidable cyclone with Oman naming it ‘Maha’. Currently, the center of this cyclone is over Lakshadweep along with the southeast Arabian Sea and the Maldives area.

The Timeline: Succession After Super Cyclone Kyarr

There seems to be little respite for the affected areas as Maha comes in close succession after Super Cyclone Kyarr. The latter was a powerful storm that veered towards the Arabian Peninsula during the current northeast monsoon season.

The Affected Areas

The regions that are directly affected by the Cyclone Maha include the southeast Arabian Sea, the Maldives, and Lakshadweep. These areas are currently in the path of the cyclone’s trajectory and need to be on high alert.

Name of the Storm Region Season
Maha Comorin Sea, Lakshadweep, southeast Arabian Sea, and Maldives 2019 Northeast Monsoon
Kyarr Arabian Peninsula 2019 Northeast Monsoon

What to Expect Next?

The trajectories of cyclones are often unpredictable, and hence it is crucial for the regions to stay updated with the latest information and alerts. The impact of Cyclone Maha on the southeast Arabian Sea, the Maldives, and Lakshadweep regions could change as the storm progresses. The areas should prepare for any eventualities and ensure safety measures are in place to protect lives and property.
