The Dairy Sahakar scheme was created to strengthen India’s dairy sector. Launched in Gujarat. The program was launched in October 2021 by the Home Minister Amit Shah. This scheme was launched during the 75th anniversary celebration of Amul.
Highlights
Under this system, financial support is provided to qualified co-operatives for activities such as milk sourcing, milk processing, branding, quality assurance, marketing, value creation, storage, packaging and transportation. The system also provides financial assistance for the export of dairy products.
It started in Anand. The Amul factory is located in the city of Anand. Amul is an Indian co-operative that helped India achieve the White Revolution. In the year 1970, Operation Flood was launched by the Government of India. This operation has transformed India from a poor dairy country to the world’s largest milk producer. This is commonly known as the White Revolution.
Implementation and Financial Support
National Cooperative Development Corporation is financially supporting this scheme with a corpus of Rs 5000 crores. Previously, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer?s Welfare, the NCDC operated. After the month of July, 2021 it operates under the ambit of the Ministry of Co-operation. This ministry provides separate administrative, legal and policy framework for strengthening the country?s cooperative movement. It is working to strengthen the ‘doing business’ of co-operatives. The vision of the ministry is Sahkar se Samriddhi. In the year 1963 NCDC was established and is involved in the planning and promotion of programs for the marketing, production, storage, processing, export and import of agricultural products. It operates on a collaborative basis.
Objective of Dairy Sahakar Scheme
This plan has two main purposes. One is to double the income of farmers and the other is to further grow the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhyan plan of the government. The overall goal of this plan is to double the farmer’s income. The Indian government plans to double the incomes of farmers by the year 2022. This must be achieved through increased production, increased prices of agricultural products, diversification of agricultural and non-agricultural products, reduced purchasing resources and survival mechanisms. This scheme will also look to boost grow the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhyan plan which looks to make the country self-reliant.
Amul
Founded in the year 1946 and based in Anand in the state of Gujarat, Amul is a dairy co-operative society of India. It is operated by Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF). GCMMF is owned by some 3.6 million dairy producers in Gujarat and major organizations in 13 regional dairy cooperatives. It is in 13,000 villages in the state. Amul played an important role in India’s white revolution and made India the world’s largest producer of milk and dairy products.
