Financial Aid for Ex-Servicemen Enhanced

Measures have been taken in Telangana to support ex-servicemen and their families through the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund. This initiative, chaired by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, aims to provide immediate and long-term financial assistance, addressing the needs of those who have served the nation. The focus is on enhancing the quality of life for ex-servicemen, particularly those facing hardships.

About the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund

Established in 1949, the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund serves as a platform for collecting funds to assist the armed forces personnel and their families. It aims to provide financial support for various welfare schemes, including educational assistance, medical aid, and housing support. The fund is crucial for ensuring that the sacrifices of service members are acknowledged and that their families receive the necessary support.

Key Financial Assistance Schemes

Recent decisions have expanded the scope of financial assistance available. Notably, immediate financial aid ranging from ₹2 to ₹3 lakh has been approved for the spouses of ex-servicemen with dependent children. This support is vital for families who may struggle financially after the loss of a breadwinner. Additionally, grants for parents and spouses of soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice have been increased.

Enhancements in Specific Grants

The marriage grant for daughters of ex-servicemen, now referred to as Kalyana Kanuka, has seen an increase, reflecting the cultural importance of marriage in Indian society. Furthermore, monthly assistance for 100% disabled soldiers has been enhanced, recognising the ongoing challenges faced by these individuals. Financial support for special children of ex-servicemen has also been improved, denoting the commitment to inclusivity.

Additional Support Measures

The recent measures include reimbursement for hostel fees, funeral grants, and financial assistance for organ transplants, marking a comprehensive approach to welfare. The initiative also encourages sporting excellence by providing cash incentives for medal-winning ex-servicemen and their children, encouraging a culture of achievement and recognition.

Infrastructure and Community Support

Funds have been allocated for the renovation of Sainik Bhavans in Karimnagar and Warangal. These centres serve as crucial community hubs for ex-servicemen, providing a space for social interaction and support. Such infrastructure improvements are essential for encouraging a sense of belonging and community among veterans.
