Highlights
The Army has strengthened the XIV Corps stationed in Leh. It is responsible for the actual line of control (LAC) in Ladakh and is equipped with additional unit formations to counter possible Chinese warfare in the winter. The changes were made as part of the reorganization from the western border to the border with China.
History of Fire and Fury Corps
The 3rd Division, formed from elements of headquarters Nagaland during the devastating war of 1962, most often maintained CI services, but was kept as a reserve for Eastern Command. After spending nearly 30 years in the east, the division left the theatre for Ladakh 20 years ago and never returned. During the CI service, the department was withdrawn and sent to fight Pakistani intruders in the Matayan Dras sector.
When the HQ XIV Corps was established, the 8th and 3rd Divisions took over. During the Kargil War, it consisted of the 79th Mountain Brigade usually stationed in Dras, 56th Mountain Brigade, usually stationed in Matayan, and the 192nd Mountain Brigade.
